Comfort

Phixnozar Travel Pillow

Having a portable memory foam device isn’t something in need of an explanation right? The truth of the matter is that unless you’re in first class, transporation can be quite uncomfortable. Help yourself out on long plane, bus, train, and ferry rides by getting a good travel pillow. And for long-term, weight- and space-conscious backpacking, consider the Metene Inflatable Pillow.

MZOO Sleep Mask & Earplugs

If you’ve ever been on an extremely bright plane or a bus playing a loud, annoying movie when you just want to pass out, consider purchasing this sleep mask and earplugs kit. And if you’re just looking to jam out to your own tunes without distraction, John appreciates these TaoTronics Noise-Canceling Headphones for loud plane, train, and bus rides.

MLVOC Travel Set (All 3 Items – Pillow, Mask, Earplugs)

If you’re really looking to disconnect, why not rest your head, cover your eyes, and block your ears all at once? Just make sure you get off at the right stop! 😛

Safety

Raytix Travel Money Belt

Many places aren’t as dangerous as people make them seem, but petty theft and pick-pocketing can certainly happen, especially in more touristy and crowded locations. Better be safe than sorry by hiding your important items (passport, credit card, cash) under your clothes and out of sight! The “RFID-safe” feature is important as well, as it helps protect you from electronic thieves that could otherwise try to scan your document information.

Pacsafe Portable Travel Safe

If we ever feel like my lodging has questionable safety measures, we can calm any nerves by simply putting our most valuable items in this safe and locking it to a stationary item in our room. It’s also great for hostels, where you share a room with many people. We are never too worried about anyone taking stuff, but if you have something particularly valuable (and that you just can’t travel without), this could be a great solution for you!

It’s also not a bad idea to carry one or two of these TSA-approved cables and locks with you.

Pop Fashion Zipper Pocket Scarf

Speaking of better safe than sorry, if you’re ever wearing something too tight for your travel belt to look decent, try out a travel scarf! I wouldn’t necessarily keep my passport in there, but you can store your phone, a spare card, and/or extra money in there easily. And the black design goes with many outfits, so that’s a plus!

For Your Electronics

Bestek Power Strip Cube

You don’t have to worry about not having access to more than one outlet (to charge your phone, laptop, wireless earphones, etc.) at the airport or a cafe when you have this handy dandy power cube. With 3 USB ports, 1 USB-C port, and 3 outlets, you can potentially charge up to 7 different devices at once!

Newvanga Universal Adapter

You can take this (battery) lifesaver to over 150 different countries, thus never again having to worry about whether the electrical outlets at your dream destination is compatible with your current chargers. Niiice.

Soaraise Solar-Powered Charger

This waterproof battery pack has been sooooo useful to us, not only when camping in remote areas or rafting in rivers way off the grid, but also for long bus and train rides, overnight nature excursions, or times where we just can’t seem to find an outlet. On top of it’s usefulness, it’s also environmentally-friendly!

.

Storage & Organization

Clear Travel Toiletry Bag

Having a toiletry bag is so helpful in keeping all of your bathroom essentials together and decreasing the chance of leaving anything behind.

But why transparent? Not only does it make it easier for you to find your deodorant or toothpaste among all of the other items that’ll accumulate in there, it’s also TSA-friendly!

(Buy a set of various sized bags here.)

Bagail 6-Set Packing Cubes

We LOVE these packing cubes. We didn’t understand the hype about these cubes – thinking what different does it make? – until we purchased and tried them out ourselves! It’s such a simple and effortless way to keep your clothes and other items separated and organized.

Here’s a link for their 5-Set if you only want the cubes and not the additional bag.

Bagsmart Travel Jewelry Holder

Have you ever thrown all of your necklaces, earrings, and rings into a bag and hoped for the best, only to spend wayyy too long detangling them at best, or finding something broken at worst?

This travel jewelry holder is the perfect solution for that, and at different sizes, you can certainly find one that’ll fit your travel needs.

Backpacks

Imani’s: Osprey Fairview Trek 70 (Women’s)

I am not exaggerating when I say this in the top 5 purchases I’ve ever made. It. Is. INCREDIBLE how much stuff I can fit in this thing, with all the weight remaining centered when I wear it. I can stuff so much in it and it always closes, it’s seriously like a magic trick.

Additionally, it is new style that’s considered a hybrid pack – built for both long-term treks in nature and traveling – with sturdy back support, comfortable padding, and easy packing access in the front. Amazing.

Finally, Osprey, of course, is a great brand. If you ever need a repair or replacement, they’ve got you.

I’m on a long-term adventure, so I needed the 70. If you prefer something smaller, here are links to the 50 L Pack (REI: 50 L).

John’s: Osprey Aether AG 85
(Men’s)

With its anti-gravity features and extra 20 liters of space for 4 ounces of weight compared to the 65 liter version, this pack is quite impressive.

I’ve had this pack for over 2 years and have used it for serious backpacking as well as all sorts of travel. Comfortable and durable as ever, this backpack is time-tested and trustworthy, so I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a life-long home.

Imani’s Day Pack: Camelbak Daystar 18 Pack

Another friend/obsession of mine, meet my trusty daypack that can hold much more than I ever imagined and is super comfortable to wear all day. Given the Camelbak brand, it’s resourceful on a day hike with its hip and chest straps and hydration pack, but it’s also great to put your laptop, jacket, and whatever else you might want on a day of city exploration or cafe hopping. It’s great for everything pretty much!

As it’s a popular item, it may be unavailable, but this other Camelbak Hydration Daystar 16 Pack has similar features.

Tropical Environment

Elite Trend Microfiber Towel

Getting a microfiber beach towel was a game changer. It’s amazing how easily sand just shakes right off of of it, how it’s still absorbent enough to do its main job, and how dries pretty quickly when left out.

You can also use it for non-beach activities like picnics or outdoor yoga, especially because it rolls up into a small, easily transportable bag.

Deet-Free Insect Repellent

So deet isn’t all that bad according to current evidence, but it does irritate some people’s skin, smells super strong, and is just intense to put on every day. So we use this plant-based insect repellent and highly recommend it.

It has its own strong smell, but we personally kind of like it… maybe just because we’ve started associating the smell with not having to scratch our legs all night, but who knows.

Neutrogena Sunscreen SPF 55

I highly recommend Neutrogena’s sunscreen because it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing gross, greasy, sticky, heavy gunk on your body and face. Rather, you just feel like you’re wearing lotion! You have to rub it in well, but it’s smooth, dries quickly, stays on well (water resistant), and doesn’t clog your pores. Win, win, win, win.

Colder Environment

Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket (W)

Okay so these are a bit pricey (discounted on REI.com at the time of writing this! See links below) but they are worth every penny to us. This jacket is super warm when you need it to be, but not overwhelming hot when you just need a little windbreaker. It’s comfortable enough to wear on long transportation rides, but durable enough to take on long hikes. And best of all, it’s SO LIGHT AND PACKABLE. You can smush it down into a small space in your big bag and forget it’s even there until you need it again. One of my favorite purchases by far.

Winter Touch Screen Gloves

Have you ever been trying to find your way around a town using your downloaded Google map and it’s super cold outside and you do that thing where you stick only one sacrificial thumb out of your glove every now and then so you can use your touch screen? Or have you ever been trying to operate an outdoor touch screen kiosk or ATM of some sort and just wish you had touch screen gloves that’ll keep your hands warm as you just try to live your life???

Well, yeah, if so, then these are for you.

Here’s a heavier duty version for like, idk, people who want to take phone pics in Iceland in January or something.

Merino Wool Socks

Breathable, comfy, and warm – even when wet. What more do you need?
